The Bainbridge Island Modern Quilt Guild’s (BIMQG) mission is to develop and encourage the art of modern quilting by supporting new quilters and other fiber artists interested in non-traditional and improvisational quilts. In addition, BIMQG offers educational opportunities through workshops and by sharing information at meetings and through its newsletter. The Guild also sponsors community “charity” quilt-making events, an annual quilt show, and quilt displays in public places.
Since 2012, BIMQG has presented the Bainbridge Quilt Festival, a free community event that displays quilts of all styles along Winslow Way and at Winslow Green. Anyone can enter a quilt for this show by registering at bainbridgequiltfestival.com. Registration is open June 30 to August 31 annually. The festival is the second Saturday of September. Festival-goers have the opportunity to make a quilt block and enjoy voting for their favorite quilt. One lucky person goes home with an original BIMQG-made raffle quilt.
Each November, BIMQG offers an annual community sewing day to make quilts to contribute to American Hero Quilts.
