About the Garden In the summer of 1998, John Albers and his wife Santica Marcovina, both Research Professors of Medicine at the University of Washington, were touring the Olympic Peninsula and fell in love with a house overlooking the Port Washington Narrows in East Bremerton. Santica was attracted by the house nested on a hillside with a backdrop of a native madrona and maple woodland while John’s major interest was in the two acres of lawn punctuated by old fruit trees remaining from what was originally an orchard. The house was for sale and John and Santica immediately made an offer and after a few months moved from West Seattle to their new location. While Santica was busy in making the house their home, John, an avid gardener, started his plans of transforming the lawn into a garden.

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is a nonprofit organization located in Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle. Our mission is to collect, preserve, and foster knowledge of Bainbridge Island History. Each year, some 13,000 visitors come from around the world to experience our award-winning exhibits which illustrate the Island’s past as a lumber and shipbuilding powerhouse, and then as an important center for strawberry farming. We tell the story of the forced removal of the Island’s large Japanese American population during WWII, the first of some 120,000 people to be incarcerated in internment camps. We provide a year-round educational program for Island youth and for visiting groups. Our teacher docents are trained educators that participate in outreach programs both in the museum and at schools throughout the region. Our 5 staff members help educators, writers and researchers locate and interpret historical source material using our collection of more than 18,000 artifacts, digital images, books and maps. As of January, 2019 the Museum has been FREE to the public! We're open Fri-Sun 10AM-4PM. Stop by and visit us -- bring your family and friends!

Bainbridge Performing Arts promotes appreciation of and participation in the performing arts to build, educate and inspire our vibrant, creative community. What began in 1956 as the only community organization to combine theatre, dance and music on Bainbridge Island thrives still today. A handful of volunteers with deep visionary roots, an eagerness for hard work, a readiness to perform anywhere, and financial allegiance planted a seed that flourished. Now, seamlessly woven into the fabric of Island life, BPA has emerged as the quintessential heart of Bainbridge Island 's artistic community, a gathering place for the energy, talent, and spirit of artists, writers, directors, musicians, dancers, students, volunteers, and impassioned audience members. Patrons from Bainbridge Island, Kitsap County, the Olympic Peninsula, Seattle, and beyond enjoy events at BPA.
