About the Garden In the summer of 1998, John Albers and his wife Santica Marcovina, both Research Professors of Medicine at the University of Washington, were touring the Olympic Peninsula and fell in love with a house overlooking the Port Washington Narrows in East Bremerton. Santica was attracted by the house nested on a hillside with a backdrop of a native madrona and maple woodland while John’s major interest was in the two acres of lawn punctuated by old fruit trees remaining from what was originally an orchard. The house was for sale and John and Santica immediately made an offer and after a few months moved from West Seattle to their new location. While Santica was busy in making the house their home, John, an avid gardener, started his plans of transforming the lawn into a garden.

Bainbridge Arts & Crafts is a nonprofit gallery that brings free art education and outreach to communities across Kitsap County. In fact, we are one of the region’s largest nonprofit galleries, supporting the livelihood of more than 200 Northwest artists, while serving close to 10,000 youth, adults, and seniors each year through more than 100 free programs—inside and outside of the gallery space. Founded in 1948 by a group of Bainbridge Island artists, we have a proud history as the first visual arts organization on Bainbridge Island and one of the very first in Washington State. We took a leap in 2018 to reinvent ourselves and build a more far-reaching organization. We transformed our gallery space. We gave ourselves a new name. And we set our eyes on a high-impact future—one that brings more free art programs to more people in Kitsap County.

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is a nonprofit organization located in Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle. Our mission is to collect, preserve, and foster knowledge of Bainbridge Island History. Each year, some 13,000 visitors come from around the world to experience our award-winning exhibits which illustrate the Island’s past as a lumber and shipbuilding powerhouse, and then as an important center for strawberry farming. We tell the story of the forced removal of the Island’s large Japanese American population during WWII, the first of some 120,000 people to be incarcerated in internment camps. We provide a year-round educational program for Island youth and for visiting groups. Our teacher docents are trained educators that participate in outreach programs both in the museum and at schools throughout the region. Our 5 staff members help educators, writers and researchers locate and interpret historical source material using our collection of more than 18,000 artifacts, digital images, books and maps. As of January, 2019 the Museum has been FREE to the public! We're open Fri-Sun 10AM-4PM. Stop by and visit us -- bring your family and friends!

Grace Church was born on a sunny Sunday morning in June, 1992, when sixty-five friends met to worship, serve others, and seek a new way to be the church in the world. They took up a collection for prayer books, hymnals, and a very large coffee pot, and set off in faith on a journey that would have surprising results. The hope and joy that filled that morning have flourished and grown into a church that numbers close to 1,000 people and touches lives worldwide. A new building completed in 2003 is a springboard for ministry and an anchor for the lives of all who come to the tall front doors seeking peace, a deeper knowledge of God, and a safe and welcoming place for their children to grow into young adulthood. In worship and prayer, in service to those who need help and compassion, in song that lifts the heart, and in warm hospitality, Grace Church continues to live joyously and to celebrate fully the life and world God has provided.

Ethan Currier is a self taught artist and sculptor who has been creating sculptures out of stone since 2001. . After spending his childhood and young adult years living on boats and traveling around the world Ethan learned early on to work with his hands using basic materials to create out of necessity; an ability which has since informed his art. In 2008 Ethan began spending time in the Pacific Northwest and it wasn’t long before he made the decision to relocate his studio and his life to Bainbridge Island, WA. Since then he has further developed his studio and made a name for himself as a local artist with projects such as the Stone Sculpture Garden at Winslow Warf and a public art installation created in 2013 on Blakely Rock which was visible to ferry commuters and puget sound boaters. In addition to having sculptures in private collections and public spaces throughout Bainbridge Island Ethan now has placed sculpture in collections in more than twenty states and seven countries. Ethan’s most recent venture is the creation of Small World Art Gallery in downtown Winslow, opening in February of 2019.

    Steven Fey Photography Gallery
Museum / Gallery;  Retail;  Visual Arts
Seattle-based photographer Steven Fey first developed his passion for the natural landscape 35 years ago as an avid hiker and mountain climber. He started photographing favorite landscapes in the western US and Canada with 35 mm cameras. As his interest and skill in photography grew, Steven graduated to large format cameras, which have an 8″ by 10″ view, allowing him to make very large prints showing stunning range, depth and detail. Since 1985, he has explored the Washington Cascades, British Columbia, and the northernmost U.S. Rocky Mountains extensively. An Alpine climber, Steven has ascended all of the major Cascade peaks in Oregon and Washington. At times, Steven’s travels have taken him farther afield, to places such as the abandoned trails in the Grand Canyon, remote areas of Utah’s national parks, and the Na Pali coast of Kauai, Hawaii. For a complete list of Steven’s explorations, visit our Backcountry page. Steven is committed to film and traditional photographic processes, rather than digital imaging. In the printing process, film allows him to more accurately portray the light and colors found in nature, as well as to remain true to his original vision when he composed the shot. As a photographer, Steven is entirely self-taught. After retiring from a career in medicine in 2002, Steven opened his own gallery in order to share his work more consistently with the public and to connect more directly with buyers.

    The Gallery at Bergh Images
    Museum / Gallery
After practicing law for many years, Andrew (“Andy”) Bergh decided it was time to chase his passion for photography. The transition began when Andy bought his first Canon digital camera in 2010. Since then, his reputation as a fine art photographer who creates evocative images has steadily grown. Whether it be one of his travel, landscape, nature, urban, black and white, or abstract photographs, Andy’s images are striking for their perspective and vivid detail. Here are some of Andy’s thoughts about digital photography: While an eye for composition is a must, the act of pressing a shutter button to capture an image only starts the journey. That’s because digital cameras, even those with every bell and whistle, record images differently than the human eye. They also can’t think or feel. So once the image has been recorded, it then falls onto the photographer to provide the human – and creative – element. To help achieve his own unique look, Andy often uses a technique called high dynamic range imaging, or “HDR” for short. This involves two steps. First, in the field, Andy sets his camera to sequentially take three (or more) shots of the same subject matter at different exposures. Second, in the digital studio, he uses software to merge the multiple exposures into a single image. The end result? A single image that is perfectly exposed with exceptional detail everywhere, even in the shadow and highlight areas. With additional “post-processing,” Andy creates images that reveal his artistic and/or interpretive vision of what he saw or experienced. Many of his images have a “painting-like” quality that contributes to their evocative mood.   The Online Store Bergh Images offers evocative images at its online store in three different mediums – metal prints, canvas prints, and fine art acrylic prints. Metal prints and fine art acrylic prints are available in four sizes, either “standard” or “panorama.”  The two standard sizes are 16×24 and 20×30, while the two panorama sizes are 15×30 and 20×40.  All images have either a “landscape” (i.e., horizontal) orientation or a “portrait” (i.e., vertical) orientation. Canvas prints are likewise available in four different sizes.  The two standard sizes are 16×24 and 24×36, while the two panorama sizes are 15×30 and 20×40. If a particular image really catches your eye and you want to know whether it’s available in another size, please email your inquiry, along with your desired specifications, to customorders@berghimages.com. Andy is a perfectionist who insists on impeccable quality for his photographic products.  For more details regarding his metal prints, canvas prints, and fine art acrylic prints, please visit the What To Order page.   The “Brick-and-Mortar” Gallery In the fall of 2018, Andy opened his own gallery on Bainbridge Island, which is a relaxing and scenic 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle, Washington. Bergh Images is a short walk from the ferry terminal and just down the street from the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. If you’d like additional information regarding the gallery’s debut, please read this post from Andy’s blog. Bergh Images is unique and readily distinguishable from other art galleries in King County and Kitsap County for a variety of reasons: Exclusive focus on fine art photography.  Unlike other galleries which only dabble from time to time in photographic art, this is all Bergh Images does. An impressive selection of metal prints, canvas prints, and fine art acrylic prints of the same evocative images available online.  The gallery, however, has prints in additional sizes – as small as 8×12 and as large as 36×54. Custom-framed black and white prints. In keeping with Andy’s insistence on quality, all framed prints come with glare-free Museum glass and thick, 8-ply custom mats to convey an instant gallery look.  The dimension of most framed prints is approximately 22×28. An amazing inventory of custom matted prints.  For traditionalists who prefer paper prints and want to select their own frames, the gallery features matted prints in four standard mat sizes – 12×16, 16×20, 18×24, and 22×28. Each print is made individually by Andy on one of his high-end Epson inkjet printers, using only archival-quality materials to ensure longevity. Not all professional photographic papers are created alike, as the choices include color (e.g., bright white or off-white) and finish (e.g., smooth or textured). Andy’s signature on every print attests to the fact that he chose what in his estimation was the ideal paper for that particular image. Free shipping on most custom orders of metal prints, canvas prints, and fine art acrylic prints. For the convenience of customers visiting the Seattle area on either business or vacation (and also those who live locally), the gallery offers free shipping to anywhere in the continental United States on most custom orders of metal prints, canvas prints, and fine art acrylic prints. In most cases, your purchase should arrive at your doorstep in approximately 15 days. Given its exclusive focus on photography; its exciting array of photographic products offered; and its policy of free shipping on most custom orders – all in combination with Andy’s evocative images – Bergh Images Gallery is one of the few “go-to” destinations for fine art photography in the Puget Sound area.
