Traditional Drum Making Workshop
Sunday, October 9, 11am – 3pm
Chief Dale Harry, a Hereditary Chief of Squamish Nation, BC, will facilitate this four-hour workshop where participants will lace their own elk or deer hide over a 14-inch maple frame. At the end of the workshop, Chief Dale will share the teachings of the drum, lead a community-building talking circle and teach a Coast Salish drum song to be sung the following day at the BARN Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration. Community Gathering and Welcoming Song
Monday, October 10, 5 – 7:00pm
Join with others in celebration with food and friendship from 5-7pm in the BARN Commons! All are welcome! Fry bread and fry bread tacos will be available for purchase, with free lemonade and cookies available to all. At 6:45pm we’ll have a welcome song and drumming led by Chief Dale Harry. Those who wish may learn the song in a practice with Chief Dale from 5:45 – 6:45pm. All are welcome at this free event! Learn more.
Film Screening of Honor Thy Mother: the Untold Story of Aboriginal Women and Their Indipino Children & Panel Discussion

We are pleased to share a screening of Honor Thy Mother: the Untold Story of Aboriginal Women and Their Indipino Children, which tells the story Aboriginal women from Canada and Native women from tribes in Washington and Alaska who migrated in the 1940s to Bainbridge Island, the traditional territory of the Suquamish people, and married Filipino immigrants. After the screening, hear more stories and ask questions during a panel discussion with members of the Indipino community who are featured in the film.
