Check Out Downtown

Winslow offers a variety of activities for the whole family. From museums and shops to food and theater, there is something for everyone!

  • The Bainbridge Island Historical Society’s Museum is a small but jam-packed history lesson. The 1908 schoolhouse offers hands-on and interactive exhibits, videos, photos, and audio recordings illustrating the Island’s rich history. Learn about how the community was one of the first affected by the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The friendly docents are a wealth of information, and trail and driving tour maps of the island are plentiful.
  • For younger kids, visit the Kids Discovery Museum, also known as KiDiMu.  It’s designed to let young imaginations roam free, learning through interactive play and their own curiosity.
  • Bainbridge’s locally owned and operated toy store, Calico Toy Shoppe is a destination onto itself for kids of all ages. Celebrating its 38th year, this delightful shop offers a full range of toys, games, and gifts, including local suppliers and eco-friendly themes.
  • Your kids will be on extra good behavior to earn a treat from Bon Bon Confections. Our local confectionery takes pride in making its famous Bainbridge Island Fudge and provides a wide selection of chocolates, truffles, nostalgic candies, and other assorted treats.
  • The treats continue at Mora Iced Creamery. Think artisanal ice cream in a myriad of different flavors. It doesn’t matter how long the line is; it’s always worth the wait.
  • Bainbridge Island’s independent bookstore, Eagle Harbor Book Company has a huge colorful kids section. Adults can get lost in the shelves, too, featuring many local writers. This is a full service, locally owned and operated business and has been serving the community since 1970.
  • In the evening, take in a play or musical performance at the vibrant Bainbridge Performing Arts or BPA. Since 1956, BPA has served as the heart of our local artistic community and thrives on the spirit and energy of artists, writers, directors, and musicians both local and national. Your visit is sure to spark the imagination of your children.

A Day of Active Fun

Bainbridge Island offers incredible outdoor and indoor activities the whole family will love that are located across the island.

  • Being on the water is one of the Island’s simplest and most beautiful pleasures.  If the water calls to you, rent a kayak from Exotic Aquatics and paddle around the gentle waters of Eagle Harbor.
  • For an amazing adventure, investigate Back of Beyond’s Big Canoe tours. Fun for the whole family, you’ll voyage with a group on the Salish Sea in a replica of Voyageur and Northwest Indigenous Canoes. Check out a day tour to Blakely Rock, or book a sunset or full-moon tour in season.
  • If being in the water doesn’t sound appealing, you’ll love the gorgeous harbor views at Waterfront Park. Take a walk down the city dock, enjoy a picnic at one of the benches or play at the playground.
  • Battle Point Park is a fabulous park for kids of all ages.  It has a spectacular play structure for kids, two soccer fields, three softball fields, a horse area, two tennis courts, two basketball courts shared with a roller hockey court, and a disc golf course. There is also a 1.5-mile walking path around the park and a duck pond.
  • If you want a more extensive walk to enjoy some of the island’s green spaces, leave Battle Point by foot along the Forest to Sky Trail. This short 1.1-mile trail is part of the longer Cross Island Trail that extends from Arrow Point on the west side of the island to Manitou Beach on the east side.
  • In the middle of the Cross Island Trail, you’ll find the tranquil Grand Forest. This magical forest is dense with fir and cedar with majestic views along the trails.
  • If the weather isn’t cooperating, head for an exciting and energetic climbing workout at Insight Climbing and Movement on Coppertop Loop.
  • Bainbridge Island’s Aquatic Center is also a fun place to spend an afternoon, complete with a water slide, a rope swing, two diving boards, and a lazy river.
  • Fay Bainbridge Park is a 17-acre full-service park with 1420 feet of saltwater shoreline to explore. With sweeping views of Puget Sound and the Cascades, the park has a newly renovated play area guarded by a pirate and is a great place to enjoy a picnic, beach volleyball, or horseshoes. You can rent a cabin, or if camping is more your style, reserve an RV or tent campsite.
  • Be sure to snap a family photo at the nearby island legend Frog Rock, which has been making people smile since 1971.  It’s nothing more than a giant rock painted like a frog, but your kids will love it. Check out the ladybug, too!
  • A classic sand beach, Pritchard Park is a wonderful place to play and offers spectacular views of the ferries as they come and go through Eagle Harbor.
  • Walk to neighboring Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial, a tribute to the many Japanese Americans who were forced off the Island and into internment camps during World War II. The display is tasteful and educational.
