For art-inspired adventures year-round, dive into Bainbridge Island’s large and thriving creative scene. From outdoor installations to indoor exhibits, classes, and galleries, Bainbridge is the place to come and stay for a weekend or longer to give your inner artist room to roam.

Places to See Art

Bainbridge Island has an exuberant, thriving art community. Filled with galleries and shops, downtown Winslow is the place to build your appreciation for our talented local artisans’ work and to make some art of your own, too!

Discover the contemporary art and craft of Puget Sound at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art  (BIMA). Free to all, the museum is an inspiring cultural hub, with rotating exhibits, classes, and events all year long. Be sure to stop in at the BIMA Bistro for a superb lunch and check out the roof garden.  Find gifts, books, and handcrafted items by local artisans in the gift shop.

Supporting more than 200 Northwest artists, Bainbridge Arts and Crafts is a must-see for art lovers. Founded in 1948, this non-profit was the first visual arts organization on the island. Today, the eclectic gallery is filled with jewelry, pottery, art, and sculpture. You’ll want to bring home a one-of-a-kind piece to remember your visit here.

Bainbridge Island embraces public art, and you’ll find it scattered all about the island. The Art and Humanities Bainbridge’s Public Art Committee, together with voting residents, annually select a new sculpture for display for the “Something New: An Ephemeral Art Exhibit.”  Keep an eye out for pieces as you wander.

Places to Make Art

Get your creativity flowing by visiting one of the local workshops or studios to create your own masterpiece.

Winslow Art Center is downtown’s inspiring and intimate space for artists. Besides hosting open studio time, the Center brings in world-class artists to teach workshops and classes all year long (online too!). Ask for owner Martha Jordan, a bubbly, gracious hostess with 20 years of art and teaching experience.

Let your creativity soar at Heart and Soul, a hands-on multimedia studio. Pick your favorite medium  — ceramics, canvas, mosaic, or fused glass, or one of the seasonal choices. Fun for the whole family anytime, particularly for  special occasions!

The motto of Scrappy Art Lab is “Reuse for a Change,” challenging you to discover “messy and creative freedom through material investigation.” With an assortment of fun, reusable materials, get messy and create something never seen before. Attend a class or take home guide sheets and materials to-go. Drop the kids off for an hour class if you’re looking for adult time.

BARN is a place where people of all ages, skills, and interests meet to create, share, and learn. A gorgeous light-filled building houses ten studios and open communal space. Extend a stay on Bainbridge and dive into book, fiber, or glass arts, writing or woodworking, jewelry making, and more. Classes run all year long, in-person and online. Check out the classes and events calendar on their website for dates and times.

Before you leave the area, be sure to swing by neighboring Friedman Oens Gallery for dramatic, often large scale art for purchase.

Create a masterpiece at one of the local sip and paint events, popular all year round. Check out Amelia Wynn or Eleven Winery to see when they are hosting the next painting class.  Kitsap Art Center in Silverdale, Port Orchard, and Kingston also host monthly events.
