Island Getaway – Discover the entrance to this cozy 300sf cottage in the woods by following the stepping stones through a dry creek bed into a private, fenced, zen courtyard adjacent to the main house. The bamboo floors, simple Scandinavian style, and a cedar lined walls make this space feel modern, clean and cozy. The cottage has wifi, a kitchenette, dining and sitting area, the queen bed has a comfy down comforter, and there is a small sleeping loft with two twin beds that is great for kids.

The space
We are back! We’ve been offline for the last two years and we are excited to finally be back to hosting. We look forward to hosting you. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. – Ned

The kitchenette has a mini refrigerator/freezer, microwave, hot water kettle, French press coffee maker, toaster, and a convection hot plate with a full set of cookware. The space comes stocked with coffee, tea, sugar, half ‘n’ half, salt & pepper, olive oil, and butter. We also stock a few snacks and simple breakfast options like granola, yogurt, and oatmeal. The dining table has seating for 4.

We have a great fiber optic internet connection so the space is great for remote working.

The bed has a new Beautyrest hybrid memory-foam mattress, a cozy down comforter, both memory-foam and down pillows and has nightstands with reading lights, and usb chargers for a variety of phones. On the dresser is a small curated selection of books, and the drawers are filled games, toys for little kids and big kids, plus some activities and children’s books.

The bathroom is a cozy European style space with a rainfall shower, natural, non-toxic toiletries, and a heat fan for chilly days. If you forget anything the medicine cabinet is stocked with spare toiletries. Hair drier under the sink.

The sleeping loft is accessed via a pull down ladder and is a perfect for kids ages 4 and up. We recently renovated this space with new flooring, lighting, and built in shelves for a more comfortable and functional feel.

There is a wardrobe/armoire with built in drawers and plenty of room to hang clothes with a luggage rack alongside. It is also stocked with a small ironing board and iron.

We have one parking space available for our guests. Additional parking spaces are available if needed, upon request.

There is a small, private, fenced courtyard at the entrance to the cottage. It features a little zen garden and patio with a bistro set with seating for two. It is a perfect spot for having tea, coffee, reading a book, or enjoying the outdoors.

The sauna sits up against the forest behind our house, is about 75 feet from the cottage and has a view out into the forest. It takes a couple of hours to heat and prepare so we offer it up to guests upon advance request. It’s heated with a wood stove and has a private cold shower attached around the back of it. It’s an especially delightful experience during fall, winter and early spring, but it is available year round! The heat from the wood stove is especially dry and great for relaxing and detoxifying. Since the sauna is in our backyard, we like to coordinate closely with our guests before and after using it to ensure privacy for all 🙂

** If you are interested in using the sauna during your stay, just let us know and we’ll schedule timing with you. We recommend evenings at or after dusk. It’s usually good timing for us and it is especially quiet and relaxing at this hour and really sets a body up for a great night’s sleep. We supply sauna towels inside the sauna and we will have cold, sauna-safe water bottles out there for you too. There are flashlights in the cottage to help you get to and from the sauna when it’s dark. We’ve recently redone the landscaping between the cottage and the sauna with a new path for easy access.

The sauna is in its eighth season now and needs a little face lift. It is on our summer maintenance schedule so we ask that you please excuse its weathered exterior.

Guest access
The primary guest areas are the cottage, its courtyard, and the parking area. If you’d like to come through the gate to meet our dog Lincoln (a Vizsla), or check out the garden or the forest, please let us know and we’d be happy to show you around.

The sauna is accessible through the gate in the courtyard, but since it is in our backyard we like to coordinate closely with guests before and after sauna use. We’ll give you all the details on that once you arrive.

Other things to note
There is a small studio / office / shop attached to the cottage that is used periodically during the day and sometimes in the evenings. We have soundproofed the shared wall for privacy. We also have some tools and things in there so you might hear us accessing those from time to time.

We are always updating our house and have some sort of project we are working on, so you may see us outside working, watering the yard, using saws to cut wood in the driveway, tending to the garden, or hauling firewood. There are also two kids and a friendly dog that like to play outside.
