Photographer and Bainbridge Island Treasure Joel Sackett will present his latest photographic book, Dave’s Brain Box, celebrating the life of iconic Islander Dave Ullin. For those of you who did not know Dave, he was a beloved character who appeared to have stepped out of time from centuries past. He lived alone on a boat in Eagle Harbor for many years, and eschewed the creature comforts the rest of us take for granted. Perhaps his most distinctive feature was a box he carried with him – his “brain box,” which contained his unique musings about life. While he largely kept to himself, he was renowned for helping those in need, and contributing to our island community. He died on his boat in 2017 -- alone, but not forgotten.

A peek into Dave's life shows a remarkable depth of character and a kindness that few can match.  His legacy should be shared and celebrated, and Joel has managed to do just that in his beautiful new book.  At the event Joel will speak of Dave, present some of Dave's more interesting possessions and give reference to the scenes depicted in the many photographs in his book.
