Drawing from Memories of Nature Workshop

Drawing from Memories of Nature Workshop

at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art

Skills of observation, reflection and drawing with the hand are deeply connected, and have been shown to improve emotional well-being. This workshop will build on students’ interests in and experiences with the natural world to generate both process and artwork. Emphasis will be given to color, shape, scale, repetition and composition, along with discussion about time and narrative. No experience necessary.

This workshop will take place in-person, distanced outside the museum.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Rachel Lodge is a visual and multi-media artist. She uses hand-drawn digital images, animation, sound, and objects to open a perceptual window into the hidden world of carbon, from the molecular to the landscape level, helping people to actually experience the flow of carbon all around us through many phenomena that are normally beyond our human perception. Largely self-taught as an artist, Rachel began exhibiting in 1990. Her work has been shown at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, the Museum of Northwest Art, and the University of Washington Botanic Garden. She has held artist residencies at PLAYA and at the Pacific Science Center.
