Hosted in collaboration with the Bainbridge Island Senior Center, Show & Tell is a monthly event welcoming community guest speakers to share the stories behind the art that inspires them.
May’s Show & Tell speaker is Alison Kettering. Kettering retired from a long career teaching art history at Carleton College (Northfield MN) after which she moved to Bainbridge Island. Her colleague at Carleton was Fred Hagstrom, a printmaker and creator of artist’s books. Alison’s Show & Tell presentation will center on a few of Fred’s many books owned by (or promised to) BIMA, including Deeply Honored (on the Japanese exclusion) and 1918 (on the earlier pandemic.) Although she specializes in the art of Rembrandt’s and Vermeer’s time, she is excited to focus her attention now on the fascinating subject of artist’s books and talk about her favorite examples.
