Thanksgiving Week Adventures

It’s Thanksgiving week and you’re heading to Bainbridge Island for feasts and festivities.  At the Seattle ferry terminal, you have the quintessential experience, you miss the boat by two cars.  Well, that’s perfect! Time enough to grab a “three piece” from Ivar’s Fish Bar or a quick drink from Ivar’s bar bar inside.  With a young one in tow these days, Fish Bar it is.  But travel to the island is only a part of the fun. Once on the rock, there are a couple of decades-old Bainbridge traditions the entire family will enjoy.

Thanksgiving week on Bainbridge is an island-wide adventure.  This is not a sit-at-home-and-chat-over-cheese kind of place. Your family and friends will want to take you out and show you their favorite parks, beaches, bakeries, restaurants, and watering holes.

The night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest nights of the year in local pubs.  If kid-free, check out The Alehouse on Winslow, or The Harbour Public House.  If you have young ones with you, welcoming places to unwind are Bruchiato, the Treehouse Cafe or the Bainbridge Brewery Taproom, where upstairs pinball machine will keep kids of all ages entertained.

Black Friday on Bainbridge can only mean one thing — stay out of the mall and enjoy nature! On Bainbridge we call it Green Friday.  You will see more islanders walking, biking, and jogging on Black Friday than any other day.  Burn off those post-feast calories (to make room for more) in the most beautiful settings at Bloedel Reserve, Fort Ward Park, The Grand Forest, or Islandwood at their free Black Friday Open House, Afternoon on the Trails. Register online and enjoy Islandwood trails, ponds, the ravine suspension bridge and the birds-eye view canopy tower.

We are thankful for Bainbridge Island’s abundant bounty — family, friends, food, holiday night-life, and accessible natural beauty everywhere you turn. It’s a perfect place to get away, during the holidays, or any time of the year
