The space
Sit at the table in the bright, vintage kitchen, or at the expandable dining room table with enough space for eating, work, or putting together a puzzle. At night, sit on the front porch, listen to the owls hoot-hooting, perhaps hear some far-off coyotes howling at the moon, and gaze up at the stars in the dark sky. A rocking chair and lamp make a great spot for reading, or just letting your cares fall away. And then, drift off to sleep in a brand new Beautyrest mattress. Forced air electric furnace keeps the whole space warm.

One of the pleasures of Sunny Hill is the surrounding quiet. We do have neighbors, so we ask guests to respect quiet hours after 9pm.
HISTORY: This small home was built in 1920 by the owner of the Sunny Hill Dairy as a wedding present for his daughter and her new husband. The couple raised their own daughter, Florence, in the house, where she lived into her 70’s. Our father met Florence during his research on the history of the Port Blakely Mill Company, and purchased the house from her 20 years later. He used Sunny Hill as his escape from city life, cooking on the wood cook stove, working in the nearby woods, and watching the stars at night. At 98, he still loves to sit on the porch and watch the stars at night, if only in his memories.
Guest access
The entire property is yours to enjoy. Maintenance visits, such as lawn mowing, garbage pick up, refilling supplies in the basement, or repairs will continue, though we try to keep these intrusions as infrequent as possible.
Please be aware that there is an “INVISIBLE” PROPERTY LINE boundary on the dining table side of the house. You will see white stakes with pink ribbon indicating where the property line actually is. (Thank you, GPS vs 100 years of use!). You may use the lawn beyond that line, but you do so at your own risk. The neighbors will not be liable for any accidents on their side of the “invisible” line. Additionally, they have an old treehouse in the trees just beyond the edge of the lawn. PLEASE MAKE SURE CHILDREN DO NO CLIMB THE TREEHOUSE.

*LONG-TERM STAYS are possible subject to prior approval. Please enquire. Dogs are also welcome subject to prior approval. Owner is allergic to dogs with a strong smell, such as hounds.*
POWER OUTAGES
It’s not unusual for the power to go out on Bainbridge, as in heavy winds, trees fall onto power lines. Sometimes this causes a transformer to blow, which takes even longer to repair. However, power is usually restored within several hours.
DURING POWER OUTAGES:
– HEAT is available from the propane “wood” stove during an outage.
– INTERNET is NOT available.
– PHONE: there is a “land line” available for phone calls.
– RUNNING WATER is NOT available (We have a well which uses an electric pump) We will provide water in a canister on the back porch.
– ELECTRIC LIGHTS and OUTLETS will NOT work. We provide lanterns (which can charge phones, as well), flashlights, and candles for light.
The wood cook stove in the kitchen is currently used as a counter surface. It is NOT to be used for cooking. However, in the event of a power outage, we can set it up as a working stove for cooking and heating water.
PETS
Though we have a ‘no pets’ policy, the inclusion of dogs is subject to prior approval. Cats are not allowed. The owner is allergic to all cats, and to the dander, saliva and oils of certain, mostly short-hair breeds. Hypoallergenic dogs are less of a problem. Given that some dogs have stayed at the house though, people with severe allergies to pets may decide that this rental is not appropriate for them.
